The 11th China National Games were held in mid- October 2009 in the city of Jinan, capital of Shandong province. These games were China's most important sporting event after the 2008 Summer Olympics. To enhance its competitiveness, the Shandong provincial government produced an action plan to benefit sustainable development. In view of its position as the location of the China National Games, the administration of Jinan itself decided to invest in infrastructure and the appearance of the city.

Air supply is vital for mining work. While in the past metal or canvas ventilation ducts were used, today predominantly flexible air ducts are required. These are manufactured from industrial fabrics by welding with hot air. The company Duflex has specialized in the production of these air ducts. They are not only used in mines; they also protect life and limb in tunnels and in working environments where there is a risk of explosions.

Turkey has taken a giant technological leap forward due to its close ties with Europe. Several industrial sectors have been upgraded. As a result, they can go toe to toe with the competition the other side of the Bosporus, no matter what aspect of the industry. One example of this new development is the Kadesan Karadeniz Branda Company located in Istanbul. Kadesan produces complete truck bodies. Currently, 12,000 truck covers, 20,000 sliding roof systems and 700 chassis bodies are delivered annually to not only Turkey itself, but also throughout the rest of Europe, Russia and the Near East. Founded 27 years ago, this innovative company currently employs 220 people and is organized into three companies. One of these companies exclusively produces truck covers. Everything is executed in-house – from plotting the graphics and executing the overlap welding for the individual parts, to welding the seams along the edges and attaching the tapes through to assembling the grommets and belts.
